Description
Wartime upgrade of the B-II class destroyer to increase overall capability of the class, but with special attetion given to its escorting capabilities. These included:
- larger main-gun turrets as the original were too cramped and when damaged, it was nearly impossible to operate the guns
- powered mounts for triple 25mm AA guns and up to six pair of double-mounted 25mm guns to bolster close-in air defense
- one or two pairs of broadside depth charge launchers (similar to WW2 K-gun) as well as double number of depth charges to bolster anti-submarine fighting capability; though this required to omit reserve torpedoes for the aft tube
- installation of sonar
- installation of various radars; due to intended role of these ships as fleet destroyers and thus mostly surface combatants, nearly all of them acquired surface-scanning radar on their main mast with 270drg field of view. Many others were fitted with air-search radar with nearly 360 dgr field of view on the aft mast. However, not all of them received height-finding radar and those who had had it installed on the main mast with only about 100 dgr field of view forward. Some of the ships even received only height-finding radar without the air-search type, either on the fore or aft mast (here it had cca 270 dgr field of view aft), which was really usefull.
The ships were never equipped with radar-supported fire control as such equipment was rare in the Dalianetar Triumvirate navy and those available were reserved for capital ships and cruisers.
This ship is B-101, probably the only ship of the class with full SEMU equipment during the war. She was sunk at the end of the war with early anti-radar missile while serving as a fighter ground control station. She is in Dalianetar silhouette-masking war-camouflage.
